Kerrie DicksonKerrie Dickson was born in Chicago. Her mother was from Montreal and her father was from Alabama. The 1968 Chicago Democratic Convention was a life changing experience for her. Her work in the early 70's with the Committee to Assist War Objectors in Canada strengthened her commitment to Peace and Social Justice. Dickson returned to the States in the 80's to work as a studio musician. She also canvassed for the Campaign for Economic Democracy in Santa Monica California. Dickson went to Georgia in 1982 and hosted an intentional community for ten years. She attended nursing school and worked sundown organic farming. She became active with the Athens Human Rights Festival and by the early nineties with the Athens Greens. Ms. Dickson became a part of the first slate of candidates fielded by the Georgia Green Party when the 1998 Wrightsville Nominating Convention nominated her for Labor Commissioner of Georgia. The next year she was named cochair of the Georgia Party and went on to represent the Party as a Legislative Advocate at the Georgia General Assembly. Ms. Dickson has three times been a candidate for public office. She was the lead plaintiff in litigation challenging Georgia's restrictive ballot access barriers, when she was denied a ballot line in her 2000 campaign for State Representative in Georgia's 8th District, after collecting nearly three thousand signatures. Ms. Dickson's issues activism has focused on addressing issues of Environmental Racism, expanding access to health care and challenging the injustices of the juvenile system in Georgia. Dickson is a mother of seven and grandmother of five. |
